The $ 5 DIY Lumber Rack Tutorial | Awesome Garage Storage Ideas

December 11, 2017 by adminPO

Garage storage ideas come in many forms. For a woodworking enthusiast like me, it’s important to have your lumber stored properly because they can take up a lot of space when left unattended. To prevent this from happening, it’s better to organize lumber with a garage DIY lumber rack. With just 5 easy steps, you can manage getting wood out of the way and store them nicely.

A DIY lumber rack is what you need to manage your garage space. You need the rack to store your wood for woodworking purposes. You can also maximize the space available to you inside your workshop (a.k.a. your garage). Prepare the tools and supplies you will need and let’s get the job done.

Tools:

  • Clamps
  • Saw
  • Screwdriver
  • Sander

Supplies:

  • Lumber (2×4’s)
  • Wood glue
  • Screws
    • Countersunk
    • 3″ with washer

Steps:

1. Cut the 2×4’s to size.

Cut the 2×4 lumber into 10″ vertically and 13″ horizontally.  This is what you will put together to form the rack.

Cut the area where you will enjoin the two wood pieces, so that they fit perfectly. In this project, a table saw was used. You can use a different kind of saw if you don’t have one. The joint area is 3″ x 3″.

2. Attach the horizontal and vertical parts.

Apply wood glue to the area where the parts will be connected.

Clamp them tightly and secure with screws.

3. Enhance the form.

You can attach the created L – shape wood to your wall. While it can serve already as a rack, we just need more of the blocks. But in this project, the form is enhanced with curves and reduced to 2″ and still maintaining the 3″ x 3″ joint area. Cut into shape with a saw available to you.

Sand the piece after cutting to smoothen the surface. Create more pieces as needed.

4. Attach the pieces to the wall and assemble the rack.

Create pocket holes into the pieces. There should be one pocket hole for the horizontal piece and two countersunk screws on the vertical piece.

Use 3″ screws with washers to get more depth on the pocket holes.

Screw it into place.

5. Place your lumber.

Place your lumber in your newly created rack and enjoy your clutter-free garage space.

Here is the full video tutorial of this clever garage storage idea from Jay Bates:

Would you do this project right away? A solid two hours can do you good already. There are so many garage storage ideas you can incorporate in your garage the DIY way. Just be sure to consider the space of your garage and your need as well.

DIY Secret Shelf Project | How to Hide Your Valuables

November 28, 2017 by adminPO

Keep your important items such as jewelry, cash, documents and gun safe inside this DIY secret shelf you can easily build!

Safely Stash Your Valuables In This DIY Secret Shelf

You can upgrade a decorative floating shelf you have at home, and equip it with a secret compartment. You can keep whatever valuables you want to be hidden. Like emergency money, your passport, or shockingly even a weapon to be invisible from an untrained eye! Are you ready to get started? Here we go!

What You’ll Need:

Tools:

  • Circular Saw
  • Drill
  • Clamps
  • Hammer
  • Arm Saw

Supplies:

  • Reclaimed Wood
  • Plywood
  • Wood Glue
  • Nails
  • Hinges
  • Screws
  • Magnetic Lock
  • Veneer
  • Latch
  • Gun Holster
  • Velcro

How To Make A DIY Secret Shelf:

Step 1: Joint Down And Glue

Trim down the sides of the shelf when making the top and bottom panels. Make sure they will fit in properly. Glue the panels together and keep them in place with a clamp. Let them dry overnight. That’s roughly around 10-12 hours.

Tip: Letting the glue dry completely will ensure its strength.

Step 2: Plane And Smooth Out

Tidy up the reclaimed wood you have collected, by smoothing it out with a Jack Plane.

Step 3: Actual Box

Use your arm saw to cut the plywood into the correct lengths of your secret box compartment. Now you will need to create the box joints. This is an essential part of the box since these are used to attach the four corners of the box and give it strength.

First connect the wood parts together by using glue. Once this is done you will want to secure the adhesion by hammering in nails.

Step 4: Attach The Hinges

Lay out the center points for the location where the hinges will be placed. Next, drill out holes and attach the hinges with screws.

Step 5: Panels

Yank the top and bottom panels a bit, to perfectly fit the splines together, and then glue. Then you will cut it to the required length and attach it to the box with glue and nails. Chisel out some portions of the wood, so as not to hit the wall when it is opened.

Step 6: Compartment Holders

If you have an emergency weapon like a gun, attach the gun holster with the help of a little latch as its holder. Attach the velcro with the use of screws to hold other items.

Step 7: Magnetic Lock And Key

Put the magnetic lock in the compartment by using more screws. Create a magnetic key out of an ordinary-looking decor.

Step 8: Put It Up On The Wall

And now you’re good to go!

Watch Adam Gabbert‘s full video tutorial on this project:

Now that you have your very own secret compartment floating shelf, your next challenge is how to KEEP IT SECRET. This kind of woodwork is hard not to brag about, believe me! So I guess, you better keep your lips sealed, and just make more of our DIY Projects you can add to your bragging rights then!

7 Chic DIY Bathroom Vanity Ideas For Her

November 25, 2017 by adminPO

I’ve got a DIY bathroom vanity solution for 7 different bathroom problems. If you need a quick fix or a budget hack, then this is perfect for you.

DIY Bathroom Vanity Solutions For Every Problem

A DIY bathroom vanity lets you gain control of your bathroom. It’s wonderful because you get to custom build it according to your preferences and limitations. Got a small bathroom space? DIY a small but stylish vanity. Working on a budget? Build something for only $100. My saying is, there’s always a DIY answer to every problem. Here are my 7 DIY bathroom vanity solutions:

1. Small But Stylish

Image via Shades of Blue Interiors

Have a small bathroom space? This small but stylish DIY bathroom vanity measures less than 25” wide, but it’s still a beauty! Also, if you don’t currently have a mirror attached to your bathroom vanity, take a tip from the photo above. You can simply go to the store and choose an affordable mirror of your liking.

2. Dresser Turned Vanity

Image via An Oregon Cottage

Been aching to overhaul a dresser into a DIY bathroom vanity? It’s possible! Just a heads up, before you start your project, begin by getting your dresser top’s measurements. That way, when you buy the sink, you’d pick one in the right size.

3. $100 DIY Vanity

Image via H2O Bungalow

Stuck on a budget? This $100 budget DIY bathroom vanity uses scrap wood and features an open shelf. If you choose to get straight boards from Home Depot, make sure the ones you purchase aren’t warped or bowed, otherwise you’ll be wasting money.

4. Ikea Hack

Got a used Ikea dresser you want to DIY? Turn into a bathroom vanity. What I love about this design is how it hides the plumbing fixtures from plain sight. Definitely saves you the eyesore of seeing them peek through from under the sink.

5. Maple Stained

Image via Domestic Imperfection

Want to give your maple wood countertop a nice dark chestnut color? The trick to getting maple wood to stain well is using a pre-stain before putting on your coats of wood finish. It makes such a huge difference in the outcome, I swear.

6. A Quick Fix

Image via It All Started With Paint

Need a quick fix to take your bathroom vanity from drab to fab? Sometimes a quick paint job is all it takes. Before you begin painting, remove the faucet and thoroughly clean the sink and countertop. I highly suggest using painter’s tape on the areas you don’t want to get painted as well.

7. Rustic Top

Image via Shark Tails

Been meaning to give your countertop a more rustic feel? Makeover your bathroom your bathroom vanity’s top with some wood and Waterlox. Waterlox is a sealer that penetrates through the wood, which gives it more protection. Each coat needs to dry for a full 24 hours, so you may need to wait for at least 5 days before you use your new bathroom vanity.

Here’s Jaé Marie’s Pottery Barn-inspired video tutorial of a DIY bathroom vanity:

I sure hope I was able to answer your DIY bathroom vanity problems! Now, there’s no need to feel confined and helpless because of your bathroom’s limitations. As long as you’re up for a DIY challenge, you’ll be able to work with any space and budget!

5 DIY Ideas for the Bedroom

November 19, 2017 by adminPO

Designing the room where you spend so much of your time — reading, sleeping, watching television, snuggling your pets and loved ones — can be quite a challenge. Sometimes it’s hard to even know where to start!

Some interior design experiments inevitably yield disastrous and aesthetically unappealing results. You can spend hundreds of dollars on decor, and things still might not look quite right right. But don’t worry, guidance is here! We’ve collected five great “on trend” DIY ideas to spruce up your bedroom. And best of all, these DIY ideas won’t take a huge toll on your wallet.

1. Gold is in!

The color gold is making a comeback this year. It is visually appealing and ensures a “wow factor” in any room. But gold is also versatile enough to pair with any background paint color or furniture. The trend nowadays is to incorporate something gold colored in a room, no matter what it is. An example would be a gold vase to light up a dull-looking bedroom. If you do not want some over-the-top gold accessory in the bedroom, make subtle changes, such as replacing door knobs or closet handles with gold.

2. Minerals, anyone?

Minerals such as sand, ceramic, stone, marble and other natural elements are frequenting trendy homes today. These minerals are made into serving canisters, vases, bowls and even wall art. They are very unique pieces worth displaying in a room. It’s also quite refreshing to bring nature into the comfort of your own bedroom.

3. Wallpaper is love

Wallpaper used to be limited to beige colors and other plain and drab designs. But now, they seem to be getting better and prettier. Say hello to rich and vibrant-colored ones that are guaranteed to liven up a room in an instant, particularly the bedroom. If you do not want to do the whole room, you can always limit it to one part of the wall and just make it an accent wall instead. There are also wall decals available that are just as lovely, which you can stick up on the walls, if you are not that adventurous.

4. Pretty pastels

Pastels, like muted pinks, greys and blues, are great for bathroom walls. They have a relaxing and calming effect that’s perfect when you’re reading, trying to catch some Z’s or soaking in the master bedroom’s adjacent tub. Refrain from using busy colors in the bedroom, as they can prevent you from relaxing and winding down after a stressful day.

5. Mix & match

The mixing of different patterns, textures and styles are great if you want to create a strong impact in a room. As long as you know how to do it right, everything will fall into place. Take small steps like mixing metallics with wood first. Next, you can try playing with fabrics like putting florals and geometric designs together. These would be great for pillows or quilts as it enhances the room by making it more feminine and classy at the same time.

These five easy DIY ideas are just a few of the hundred things you can do to decorate your room. You do not have to be an artist to come up with something creative for the bedroom! There is a limitless supply of great furniture, pretty fabrics, ingenious wall art, paints and other odd knick-knacks to create a spot-on bedroom look. You only need to look and appreciate with your eyes and heart to know what clicks and what doesn’t.

5 Ways to Upcycle Old Pallets | DIY Pallet Projects

November 18, 2017 by adminPO

Are you an up-cycling maven? Prepare to be amazed by these 5 DIY pallet projects.

5 Ways to Upcycle Old Pallets

DIY style is all the rage these days; the perfect way to accomplish true DIY style at home is by adding a little upcycling magic to your furniture. Turning a discarded piece of rubbish into a piece of furniture, accessory for the home or simply art, is a great way to spend the weekend.

Making a blogging site has become as easy as setting up a Facebook account, with services like this offering you the chance to get online for next to nothing. The internet is full of the creative masterpieces made by DIY craft lovers. We love seeing blogs full of DIY designs, and have got some great ideas for up-cycling from our fellow crafty bloggers. It seems even a rubbish dump or building site can be a source of inspiration!

One item that is a fave amongst up-cycling connoisseurs is the pallet. Pallets are often free or cost very little, and with a touch of DIY skill, an old pallet can become a beautiful object. Here are some DIY pallet projects to try at home:

1. Picture Frames

Pallets are amazingly versatile and can be easily taken apart, leaving you with a selection of rustic slats. Once taken apart, cut to size, and varnished you could make a simple but stylish frame, with just a few tools. Top tip: if your pallet wood is dirty make sure you give it a good scrub with water and a stiff brush, and let it dry before doing anything else.

2. Coffee Table

If you would rather keep it simple, turning a pallet into a low coffee table is the easiest and classiest option. All it takes is some sanding and varnishing. You can paint it if you are feeling extra creative, or just leave it natural looking. Adding wheels to the bottom will give it height and prevent the risk of scratching up your floor.

3. Shelves

Gorgeously rustic shelves made from pallets will instantly give character to any room. Left a little chipped and worn, pallets can become shelves with strong character that makes a big statement.

4. Plate Rack

Simply by removing some of the slacks and attaching it to a wall, a pallet can become an efficient, and charming plate rack. Obviously will need some proper sanding first.

5. Daybed

For all you day time nappers out there, turn an old pallet into a cool daybed. After making it with your own two hands you will deserve that afternoon nap!

You can decorate/renovate for your little boy’s bedroom without spending a lot of money. These vivid, bright, and colorful boys bedrom ideas, from decors to furniture, will make your son want to stay in their room all day. Isn’t that what most parents want, anyway? I kid, but since your son can only remain young for so long, it’s best to give them a bedroom worth remembering. By the time they have their own children, they might do the same thing.

9 Most Adorable DIY Boys Bedroom Ideas You Wish Were Yours

Children aren’t particular with how their room looks like, as long as their toys, books, and even clothes are all there. These DIY boys bedroom ideas go way beyond having a Michael Jordan poster or having a race-car bed.
